Summary0003258: ID Attribute Missing from Equipment
Description

The ISA95 spec defines an ID attribute for Equipment but it is not implemented in the UA/ISA95 Companion Spec. The Companion Spec does implement the ID attribute for Physical Assets (Variable named FixedAssetID, referenced with HasISA95Attribute reference).

Mapping the ISA95 ID attribute to the text portion of the UA BrowseName attribute is not possible or is problematic.

  • The Equipment ID is used as the primary means of uniquely identifying a piece of Equipment in a facility (documents, nameplates) while BrowseName is designed for programmatic use and is not intended to be displayed.
  • The BrowseName will be fixed if the Equipment is an instance of a Type that uses InstanceDeclarations (required to make TranslateBrowsePathtoNodeId work)

Mapping the ISA95 ID attribute to DisplayName is not viable either because DisplayName should be a human readable string (#1 Tank Pump) and not an ID string (001-76-1100).
