Summary0007779: Chapter 6.2 what does "skids" mean?
Description

Chapter 6.2 uses the term skid but does not provide an explanation of the term.
Does this address the wooden pallets where the machine stands on?
Then it would be strange to mention them in this context.
(editor's note: It seems the term skid is not a universally known term across automation silos.)

The adjectives "process automation" was added before the term "skid" to better define the term. A process automation skid is a defined term in the process automation industry. Automation Direct defines the term as "Process skids are created by taking various processes and fitting them onto a skid. These processes are often smaller versions of large-scale plants, for example a wastewater treatment skid processing 5,000 gallons per day, as compared to a municipal wastewater treatment plant processing millions of gallons per day." Other sources define a skid as "A modular process skid is a self-contained process system that has been built into a frame or “module” for easy transportation and integration. Modular process skids can contain entire process systems or individual process applications; including batch mixing or blending, delayed differentiation, solvent recovery, and small-scale distillation.".

After discussion the term was changed to modular process skid.
