Summary0007785: Chapter 9.4 backward compatibility impact of exporting the previous Descriptor version
Description

In chapter 9.4 it states in the second bullet that "Engineering tools that are able to export or import Descriptors of a specific OPC UA FX Version shall also be able to export or import Descriptors of a previous OPC UA FX Version (backward compatibility).".
This sounds quite heavy … are we sure we want to force this on every tool … to be able to export all previous versions?
It is understandable in the import-case but not the export case.

After discussion we rejected the change request. If export of UAFX Descriptor old versions are required, an "old" engineering tool can better import this than doing an "best effort" approach.

Another example is a project where one has multiple engineering tools of the same UA FX version being used. After the release of a new UA FX version one engineering tool gets upgraded to 1.1 while the other tools are at version 1.0, therefore the preferred version for information exchange in Descriptors would be version 1.0. In order to be able to produce 1.0 Descriptors the upgraded engineering tool needs to support older versions for export.
