Summary | 0008249: Part 83 section 7.7.2 Table 3 Validity Period description needs to be improved (D. Ziegler)
Description | The description of Validity Period currently reads: This means that Descriptors become invalid as soon as a certificate expires (or is revoked). I.e. the publisher needs to resign the Descriptor periodically. Consider maybe using third-party time-stamping services such that the signature can be validated, even if the certificate has expired

From discussion with Martin Dickopp: I don't see why Descriptors become invalid when the certificate expires. The requirement demands that the time the signature was created (i.e., a fixed time chosen by the signer) shall be within the certificate validity period. If this is true, it remains so forever. This is currently more a requirement of well-formedness than a security requirement (since the signer chooses the timestamp), but will become a security requirement when we specify trusted timestamps in C2D. No change to the text is required. |
