Paul Brooks: "I will need to look; it probably means an output from a thing that is monitored by two other things. This is like an EtherNet/IP exclusive owner and listen only connection where the device can’t be reconfigured until both have closed the connection. This ensures that the meaning of the data for the listen only device doesn’t change while it is listening even if the exclusive owner has gone away. The function is independent of unicast and multicast and there are many good reasons to prefer multiple unicast connections to one multicast (like operation through a layer-3 switch)."
