Summary0009654: UserToken Requirements in Standard UA Server Profile
Description

Currently the Standard UA Server Profiles require support of the X509 User Tokens. Because not all products have support for different types of user tokens, this requirement is problematic for some products. Integrating this OPC UA requirement often only is a hack which maps a certificate to a username/password user.
This makes vendors select the Embedded UA Server Profile over the Standard though the Standard would be a better fit.

Especially because for future products the UA WG rather sees IssuedTokens becoming wider adopted, this requirement should be changed.

Additional Information

The discussed solution in the UA WG was to create a new CU which mandates support of one UserToken (Username Password, X509 User Certificates or IssuedTokens) and make the existing mandatory CUs for Username Password and the X509 User Certificate Facet optional.
