As a plant owner I want to be able to establish an asset management system in my plant(s), which is able to read the asset management / identification parameters from each device/component (hardware/software) that is installed in my plant. Asset management activities may be performed across multiple plants potentially in diverse geographies and therefore need common asset identification approaches for all devices. The asset management system will enable the following personas to complete asset management operations:

• As a security officer I need to respond to vulnerability notifications from vendors and put in place remediation plans.
• As a plant maintenance engineer I need to be able to upgrade product firmware or replace obsolete hardware during planned maintenance shutdowns.
• As a plant manager I need to inform my maintenance staff of product recall actions, Software termination or hotfix/updates for assets in our plant.
• As a plant maintenance engineer I need to keeps spare equipment on hand in case of failures. If I am notified of last time buys or product obsolescence I need to know that I have sufficient stock on hand.
• As a purchasing agent I want the ability to inventory all product from a particular vendor or of a particular type to produce reports for senior management.
• As a plant maintenance engineer I need to create a complete inventory of all installed and communicating components (hardware/software) for easier root cause analysis in case of failure.
