Summary0002067: DiscardOldest behavior is difficult to comprehend; 5.12.1.5
Description

CMPWG 5/30/2012:

The wording of the DiscardOldest parameter in the first paragraph of 5.12.1.5 is still confusing.

Our suggestion is to add a graphic representation that shows exactly how the queue behaves, by showing clearly which item is removed from the queue and which item receives the overflow bit. For example, the diagram could show a full queue and then show where the new value will go.

2 diagrams will be necessary: 1xDiscardOldest=True and 1xDiscardOldest=False.

Nathan, If you can provide the drawing and text to go with it in time for 1.02, we will put it in.

I have attached an XLS drawing that hopefully simplifies the DiscardOldest behavior. If you hide "gridlines" in Excel then an image can be retrieved easily.

The CMPWG has reviewed the diagram.

Added figure to illustrate queue overflow handling.
Needed to redraw the figure in Word.

Changed in document "OPC UA Part 4 - Services RC 1.02.18 Specification.doc"
