Summary0002194: Clarification on supported profiles
Description

Part 5 defines places where the server exposes ist supported profiles.

On the ServerCapabilitiesType there is

  • the Variable ServerProfileArray containing a flat list of profiles and
  • The Variable SoftwareCertificates having a list of software certificates each having a list of profiles

The open question is whether this is the list of profiles the product can support or the list of profiles the product supports in its current configuration. For example, a server might be configured not supporting a specific information model even if the product has build-in support for it.

Proposal: Have the profiles in the SoftwareCertificates as what the product supports (they are signed) but limit the ServerProfileArray only containing the currently configured supported profiles.

General opinion is to allow the two profile list to differ, but not to mandate that the flat list only match the current configuration.

Discussed in telecon. State that servers "should" reduce the list to what is currently configured, but not make it mandatory.
