Summary0006177: Clarification needed for Property "DefaultInstanceBrowseName" introduced with OPC 10001-7
Description

The optional Property "DefaultInstanceBrowseName" was introduced with OPC 10001-7 (Interfaces and AddIns) into Part 3 / Table 12.

  • This property is NOT ONLY related to amendment 7, because it is stated in the Spec.:
    • Allows the definition of BrowseName on an ObjectType that all instances should use by default.
    • This Property has no ModellingRule. It shall only be on the type Node.

Reading this it assumes that this property can be used on any ObjectType.

  • Is this assumption correct?

Using this property on an abstract/non-abstract ObjectType the question is:

  • Will this property be propagated to their subtypes or sub-subtypes - especially when the defined ObjectType is an abstract ObjectType?
  • Or, is it like it is e.g. for "0:Icon" that it only can be used on the type it belongs to and a subtype need to define his own "DefaultInstanceBrowseName" always?

Assumption is correct - no special handling for DefaultBrowseName and it can appear on any ObjectType.

No changes needed to Part 3. It is true that this info is missing from the online reference for Amendment 7.
